Ninh Binh: Vietnam’s Hidden Gem We Almost Skipped

If Ha Long Bay had a secret twin on land, Ninh Binh would be it. Dramatic limestone cliffs rise out of rice paddies, and the air smells like wet earth and jasmine. We almost skipped it. We’re so glad we didn’t.
📝 Things We Loved:
Tam Coc boat ride through caves and rice fields (rowed with feet! 😲)
Hiked to Hang Mua Viewpoint – 500+ stairs for jaw-dropping views
Explored Bich Dong Pagoda, part temple, part cave
Rented a motorbike and cruised through lush farmland
💬 Our Vibe Check:
This was our “slow down” week. We read. We got lost. We watched water buffalo and waved at kids. Ninh Binh reminded us that beauty doesn’t beg for your attention—it just is.
🛏️ Where We Stayed:
Tam Coc Garden Resort – bamboo villas and sunrise views over lotus ponds 🌾
📸 Tip:
Drone shots over rice paddies = chef’s kiss. Go early to avoid haze.
And just like that, we’re off to Malaysia… but Ninh Binh stole a piece of us.
